Roadmap

The goal: any ASCII creative you see on a website or in an app should be possible with asciify-engine. Components, backgrounds, Looks, video and the agent skill are here today; these are the pieces that come next.

NextA character grid you write to

Set and write individual cells, grid.write(x, y, "text"), for terminal-style interfaces, text-mode dashboards, ASCII games and art that is typed rather than converted from an image.

NextAny 3D scene in characters

Feed a three.js, WebGL or WebGPU scene into a field every frame: spinning models, donuts and whole scenes drawn in characters, with the same marks, hovers and colours as the rest of the engine.

PlannedYour own shaders on the grid

A hook for custom effect code that runs on the character grid, so designers are not limited to the built-in marks, hovers and motions.

PlannedFrame-by-frame ASCII animation

Play hand-made ASCII frame sequences and sprite sheets, the classic way ASCII art moves, with timing, loops and scrubbing.

PlannedAudio-reactive characters

Drive any field from music or a microphone: visualisers, beat-synced backgrounds and voice-driven effects, beyond the voice orb.

PlannedPage elements in characters

Turn live text, buttons and whole sections into ASCII, not only images and video, with the page still readable and accessible underneath.

PlannedParticles and physics

Characters that fall, scatter, collide and settle: confetti, dissolves and playful interactions driven by a small physics step.

PlannedFramework bindings and off-browser use

React, Vue and Svelte components, a command-line tool and server-side rendering for static ASCII art, exports and build-time posters.
